Our present Royal Palace was built in the oldest place of Madrid, just where Muslims built the old fortress, the so-called Alcazar, that gave birth to our city. In the 18th century, upon the fire of the alcazar, king Philippe the 5th decided to construct a new palace. The best Italian and Spanish architects were asked to design an astonishing building of almost 1,5 million square feet and more than 3000 rooms.
Don’t worry, we won’t see all of them! Our local official guide will take you along the ones that are open to visitors. Your guide will explain about the different kings and queens that lived here along the time, from Charles the 3rd up to Alfonso the 13th, who left the Palace in 1931.
We’ll see their portraits, the rooms where they were getting dressed or having lunch, the Royal chapel, etc. Rooms full of beauty and elegance that our present king, Philippe the 6th, still uses for official events such as State dinners, or Ambassador’s credentials. It is a unique opportunity to enjoy a “Royal atmosphere”.
