The great apogee of Aranjuez as Royal Site came in the 18th century under the monarchy of the Bourbons. It was then, with that traveling Court on a fixed date, that toured the Royal Sites year after year with unusual punctuality and unwavering fidelity, when Aranjuez saw his physiognomy gradually transformed into something quite different from what the founder, Philip II, had projected in his day, to whom the first clearings were due, the layout of avenues and landscaped squares and, above all, the irrigation channels that turned the place into the orchard that is today.

With your licensed guide, you will visit this rich palace, whose decoration comes from the 18th and 19th centuries, where the Spanish Royal family used to spend part of their springtime, either in the elegant rooms we’ll visit or in the splendid garden. The north facade of the Palace is separated from the Garden of the Island by a paved estuary. Here is where one of our most famous contemporary music composers, Master Rodrigo, was inspired by the singing of the birds and the flowers perfume (he was blind since he was a child) to create his world known as “Concert of Aranjuez”.

From Aranjuez, only 28 miles from Madrid, we’ll continue to the charming place of Chinchón. This village is one of the most picturesque towns in the Community of Madrid. Its location so close to the capital has not prevented it from preserving its uniqueness. 

Orson Welles, Michael Anderson and other great cinema directors chose Chinchón to shoot their films; actually, the town was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1974. After having al “Castilian lunch” that could end with a little glass of local anisette, you will stroll on the unique Plaza Mayor and the charming streets nearby, before coming back to Madrid.
