Figueres is a small quiet town located just 30 km away from the French border. It has a colorful Rambla, lovely little streets, a gothic church and several museums related to cinema or toys. However, what makes the town an international destination is the Salvador Dalí Museum. He himself designed the striking building, which is covered all over with giant eggs, golden mannequins and loaves of bread, and dotted around with sculptures. Figueres is Salvador Dalí’s birthplace, and when he was older, he signed an agreement with the mayor of his hometown to transform the ruins of a burnt out theatre into a Surrealist Museum. Dalí certainly succeeded, with a major surrealist creation containing hundreds of Dali’s original works. Our expert guide will take you through the labyrinth of corridors and rooms in the exhibition to discover and unveil all the optical illusions Dali applied to his art-works to provoke reactions and astonishment among its visitors. A real surrealist experience, well worth the trip, located only 160 km away from Barcelona.
The visit to Dalí’s museum can be easily combined with the beautiful city of Girona, well known for its medieval remains as well as for its Jewish quarter and Jewish museum.
