Priorat is a first-class wine region with its own DOCa – Denominación de Origen calificada (Qualified Designation of Origin), the highest level of Spanish wine classification, implying a guarantee of high wine quality. Only two regions currently hold DOCa status for their wines in Spain: Rioja, in Northern Spain and Priorat.

The mountainous region of Priorat is near the Mediterranean Sea in the province of Tarragona, South of Barcelona. It is a world of complete contrast to that of the nearby coastline. Rugged and rocky land, beautiful views, centuries-old vineyards cultivated on terraces, hidden monasteries, and villages camouflaged by their surroundings where silence and stillness reign, that is, except during the grape harvest.
